Why Do I Like Working For naviHealth?
I provided a list of companies that hire for Utilization Review in last week's blog about Utilization Review jobs. One of those companies, naviHealth, is the company I work for. I wanted to share a few reasons why I enjoy working for them!
1) The extensive orientation process
In my 15 years as a Physical Therapist, naviHealth has provided the most extensive orientation of any company I have worked for. You're not "thrown to the wolves" because there is a lot of information to learn in the 1st 3 months. You don't start working on "live" cases as a Pre-Service Coordinator until after 2.5 weeks. After the initial orientation, there is a preceptor who remains available to instruct, guide and provide answers to questions until approximately your 2nd month. After the 2nd month, there is a mentor you can ask questions to, but there are also multiple people who are willing to help answer questions. During that time, there are weekly 1-on-1 meetings with the manager to discuss progress and various questions that arise. I genuinely appreciate my co-workers and managers who answer the multiple questions I ask daily because most remember what it is like to start out!
2) The company values their employees
This is demonstrated in different ways, but I will point to the two I find most unique to other companies I have worked for:
A) Paid Parental Leave: This past week I was reading a post in a Physical Therapy group on Facebook about maternity leave. It was sad to see how many stories talked about how they had little to no maternity benefits outside of unpaid FMLA. For many companies, paternity leave doesn't exist outside of PTO and/or sick leave. I know for my 1st son, I had to go back to work within the 1st week because I didn't have enough available time off to go beyond that. On the naviHealth website, it lists among their benefits paid parental leave for new moms/dads.
B) Day of Giving: I have worked for companies that would donate money to a non-profit, but naviHealth is the 1st company I have worked for that will pay their employees to take a day off work to volunteer for a non-profit. I haven't used that day yet, but I think it is a great way to allow employees to improve their community on a weekday!
3) The future opportunities with the company
When working clinically, my only options with the places I worked were either a) remain a treating clinician or b) become a manager. I like knowing that being a Pre-Service Coordinator is not my only option when it comes to working at naviHealth. I mentioned in the last blog some of the other remote Utilization Review roles at naviHealth such as Appeals and Denials and Home Healthcare Coordinator. During the orientation process, there were Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists who provided the majority of the instruction from the Learning and Development team. Managers of various levels throughout naviHealth are therapists and nurses. I know many Pre-Service Coordinators that started working in a different position within the company. Within my 1st 2-3 months at naviHealth, my manager was already asking me to think about my future with the company!
There are multiple reasons why so many have chosen naviHealth as the company to work for. I hope this blog provided better clarity on some of those reasons!
